US Patent #6,274,635 Print E-mail
icon US Patent #6,274,635 was the first patent issued for novel resorcinols, which were tested against seven different malignant cell lines and successfully inhibited six of them at significantly lower concentrations than the parent compound, olivetol.  There has been no followup research program.  The literature suggests that some resorcinols cause DNA scission, which may lead to apoptotic cell death (programmed cell death) by this class of compounds.

Immugen believes that scale-up synthesis of the many compounds which are held under patent protection could then be filtered by high throughput screening by The Southern Research Institute where the initial studies were done.  Further research into the mechanism of action of the most effective drugs could be funded by Immugen or the Immugen Research Foundation through a competive grant process.  Otherwise, the drugs would be made available freely for those scientists who can obtain independent funding.
