Our mission is to conduct and support medical marijuana/cannabinoid research to develop affordable treatments for serious and life-threatening diseases and alleviate patient suffering around the world.
Immugen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., is a pharmaceutical company that is developing drugs to confront significant unmet medical needs in disorders for which modulation of the immune system would have clinical benefit. Immugen has established patent protection on a number of immunomodulators which may provide protection from the immune response to such viruses as influenza, slow the progression of HIV disease and prevent its transmission, and provide treatment for a variety of autoimmune diseases. These immunomodulators are low molecular-weight compounds. They are based on a classical cannabinoid template which selectively binds and activates specialized receptors found almost exclusively within the immune system, type 2 cannabinoid receptors (CB2 receptors). They are, therefore, devoid of psychoactive effects at clinical doses.

Based on the existing scientific literature, Immugen has identified three compounds that are non-proprietary in nature and possess the immunomodulatory properties required to limit the progression of HIV disease through Achieving Quiescence ™ of the immune system. Claims for the use of these compounds, and other proprietary compounds in the same class, have been filed as continuation and continuation-in-part applications. They are pending approval by the USPTO.
The choice of which compound to advance through the development pipeline will be based on Metabolic Stability and other pharmacologic parameters known as ADME/Tox. Since these drugs belong to a well-defined class of compounds which have been studied extensively, Immugen believes that issues of efficacy and safety will be satisfied early in the process. Discussions with the FDA will be initiated once the lead compound has been identified.
Since inflammation is the primary response to HIV infection, the results of the core immunologic studies should lead to other uses of the drug, such as treating rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory bowel disease and preventing atherosclerosis.
Immugen®
Immugen® has secured a number of patents and one registered trademark. The worldwide patenting process is quite burdensome for a start-up company such as Immugen. Our goal is to focus on getting approval for our first drug(s), establish a presence in the market and keep prices as low as possible throughout the world to extend the life of the brand beyond the life of the patent. Competitive pricing, along with brand recognition, should reduce the likelihood that generic drug makers would try to reproduce the product.

Achieving Quiescence™ - This was abandoned in 2002 for lack of use.
Antaggra™ was challenged by Elan Pharmceuticals, Inc., because of its registered mark, Antegren, which was renamed Tysabri for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. According to the USPTO, the mark, Antegren, is now dead. The tradmark Antaggra could now be used as the name for the lead immunomodulatory drug for the treatment of a variety of diseases including HIV, atherosclerosis, etc. Such drugs depend on signaling within the immune system which leads to the aggregation of immune cells. Originally it was created for the use of an alkyl resorcinol, IMG-510, which inhibited platelet aggregation and blocked thromboxane synthase in platelets which is inhibitory of platelet activation.
